DC’s most iconic gay superhero couple Apollo and Midnighter are returning for a new joint series.
Written by Steve Orlando and drawn by Fernando Blanco, the comic book will follow on from the Midnighter solo series which concluded last month.
The solo series, which began with him finding himself single after splitting with husband of 13 years, Apollo, ended with the two reconciling.
Orlando says the two characters now ‘have a firmer idea of who they are, and they’ve become stronger and more confident together’, according to the New York Times.
This is the first time Apollo and Midnighter have headlined a comic by themselves.
Midnighter possesses superhuman strength, tactical knowledge and often goes on dangerous missions while remaining unknown to the larger superhero community.Apollo, on the other hand, has solar-powered super strength and can fly.
When Orlando originally started writing the solo series, he said: ‘Being able to present that type of character I think is very powerful, because people need to know that you just have to be yourself, and you can be anything, and you can still be gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.
‘There’s no one way to do things.’
Midnighter & Apollo #1 will be published on 1 October.
