Standing in 69,696 square foot (6,474.97 square meters) of grassland gardens, Scar Top House has been the world-famous actor’s retreat for the past 25 years.

‘It was more remote than I envisaged but the views are amazing and it is very private, which has been helpful,’ he told the Yorkshire Post.

‘It was my bolthole, my retreat. I loved being in that landscape and I enjoyed hiking. I’d go for 20-mile hikes and not see another person.’

The locals also pitched in to keep admirers away from Scar Top House, with the couple who run the local Post Office frequently denying Stewart even lived here.
