Toronto Pride is looking to be one of the most bizarre events in the LGBTI calendar this year.
First, you have Justin Trudeau making history as the first sitting prime minister to march in a Pride parade.
And then, second, you have Black Lives Matter protestors blocking the parade from continuing unless the organizers agreed to their demands that police be banned from future Pride events.
And finally, you have this Christian group.
Posing as ‘gay zombies’, the half-a-dozen activists dressed up in green skintight bodysuits and rainbow wear to give out what appeared to be condoms.
But instead of promoting safe sex, the crowd received info packets revealing the ‘physical and spiritual dangers of homosexual practices’.
The pamphlets were filled with graphic images of people suffering from diseases like AIDS, warning that it was the result of a homosexual lifestyle.
Bill Whattcott, the leader, paid the $100 fee to register ‘Gay Zombies Cannabis Consumers Association’ in the parade to dupe Pride-goers into ‘accepting’ their message.
Whattcott said his plan was far more effective than if they did not wear the disguises.
‘If you try to give out a Gospel pamphlet, they swear at you and throw slushies on your forehead,’ he said. ‘But, give them some whackadoodle thing that looks like a condom and they really can’t grab it fast enough. I had 3,000 out in 20 minutes.’
The pamphlets included graphic images of people suffering from diseases like AIDS, genital warts, and syphilis, claiming this would be what would happen if you engage in a ‘homosexual lifestyle’.
Whattcott was previously found guilty of hate speech for handing out similar leaflets in 2013. A year later, he attempted to infiltrate Vancouver Pride by posing as a member of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
