Sunday (3 July) marked three weeks since 49 people were shot to death inside the gay nightclub Pulse in Orlando.
The Orlando Gay Chorus, in Denver for the GALA Choruses Festival, marked the occasion with a moving rendition of the anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone.
The song, a show tune from the 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Carousel, is often performed at sporting events and other gatherings to serve as inspiration to carry on.
The Orlando chorus, performing at the 2500-seat Ellie Caulkins Opera House, got plenty of company about halfway through the song.
Conductor James Rode turned to the audience of mostly members of other choruses and motioned for them to stand and join in. They did and it made an already powerful performance all the more powerful and certainly unforgettable.
