The Spice Girls – well, two thirds of them – have officially announced they are to reunite, as the band’s debut single Wannabe turns 20.
Geri, Emma and Mel B will now go by the name of GEM, making the announcement in a cute YouTube video.
The girls have even launched a new, albeit sparsely-populated, website to mark the news, spicegirlsgem.com.
Meanwhile, producer Elliott Kennedy has revealed a new song from the girls is in the works, saying on Good Morning Britain: ‘We have been in the studio with just three of them and we had a fantastic couple of days.’
He added: ‘We wrote a brilliant song and the energy was exactly like it was 20 years ago, just as enthusiastic, just as much to say, just as much to celebrate.’
Victoria Beckham has made no secret of her lack of desire to perform again, choosing instead to focus on her fashion business. Mel C, meanwhile, has also distanced herself from the project, choosing instead to focus on her solo musical career, according to sources.
Mel B says in the video: ‘We’ve been thinking, we have the best fans in the whole entire world.’
‘You’ve stood by us for 20 years, and we want to say a big thank you,’ adds Geri, with Emma continuing: ‘We’ve had our ups and downs, but you’ve always been there.’
We hope to tell you soon what your want, what you really really want… #wannabe

Rumours are now rife that the trio will perform for a special one-off gig in London’s Hyde Park next July.
The band are one of the UK’s most successful musical exports, selling 80 million records across three studio albums, a greatest hits package and 11 singles.
