Not many people talk about the issue of abuse in personal relationships, let alone speaking about it publicly.
Popular lesbian YouTuber Arielle Scarcella recently gathered a few members of the queer female community to discuss the different kinds of abuse and how they may play out in intimate relationships among queer women.
In their interviews, the women agree that abuse can be exhibited in many different forms and affecting people in varied ways.
For instance, the abuse may not be physical at all, but can be in the manner of jealousy, being overly controlling, or projecting negative feelings unto the other person, so on and so forth.
It is also shared by the YouTubers that some people may not see that it’s necessary to get help from their situation, or they don’t know how or where they can find it.
Speaking to The Huffington Post, Scarcella shared her own experience:
‘So many people don’t realise that there are many ways someone can abuse someone… I was abused emotionally, mentally and verbally by a few ex-girlfriends of mine and no one ever told me. I simply didn’t know.’
She added that ‘women in lesbian relationship are most likely to suffer domestic violence, obesity and poverty.’
Even though the video is focused on the lesbian community, many points brought up are relatable to everyone.
