Brazilian telenovela, Liberdade Liberdade, which translates to ‘Freedom Freedom,’ just aired the first ever gay sex scene in the history of Brazilian soap operas.

According to Brazil’s ODIA, here’s what happened in the episode that aired on Tuesday: André, played by Caio Blat, and Tolentino, played by Ricardo Pereira, ‘conveyed the duality between desire and fear that desire. They finally cannot resist one another and undress. After making love, they end up lying naked on the bed holding hands.’

And here’s the dialogue leading up to the act:

Tolentino: ‘My only friend is you. You, Andrew. A sensitive man. Can you understand the mysteries of life. The turns that the world gives. The surprises that life holds.’

Andrew: ‘Surprises about ourselves.’

Tolentino: ‘Yes. You said one day. We all have a second nature. Sometimes remains hidden.’

Andrew: ‘But not forever.’

According to ODIA, actor Kelvin Torres lauded how Blat and Pereira interpreted and played out the ‘coming-out’ scene.

‘It was a very real scene. The actors managed to convey the anxiety of the characters wishing that first time [between] them,’ said Torres.

Popular Brazilian gay YouTuber Victor Larguesa also celebrated the epic episode.

‘At a time that conservatism flooded our government, the more networks naturalise the way I experience my body, my feelings and my sexuality, to me, is a win,’ he said.
