A trans woman robbed a bank and then handed the money out while waiting for police to arrive.
Last week, Linda Thompson robbed a bank in Cheyenne, Wyoming, by presenting the teller with a cardboard note saying: ‘I have a gun. Give me all your money’, authorities said on Friday (29 July).
After leaving the bank, Thompson didn’t flee, but instead AP reports she threw the money – several thousand dollars – into the air and offered some to passers-by before sitting down to wait for police.
When they arrived, she told them she wanted to go back to prison because she couldn’t stay on the streets any longer, court records say.
Thompson said she had been attacked in a Cheyenne park, suffering facial fractures; she also couldn’t get a room at one of the city’s homeless shelters, which would’ve provided some safety.
She was released from Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville, Oregon, after serving time for second-degree robbery, in June, Oregon Department of Corrections’ communications manager Betty Bernt told AP.
Upon her release, Thompson reportedly told investigators she didn’t want to be released, saying she wouldn’t do well on parole.
A detention hearing on a bank robbery charge is set for Tuesday; according to AP, Thompson does not yet have an attorney.
