Father of Pulse shooter: ‘I wish my son had joined US army to destroy ISIS’

Seddique Mateen wished his son had 'destroyed ISIS'

The father of the Pulse shooter has said he wished his son had joined the US army.

Seddique Mateen, whose son shot and killed 49 people and injured 53 in a gay Orlando nightclub in June, attended Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s rally in Kissimmee, Florida.

He was spotted in the crowd directly behind the candidate, sitting a few seats away from a woman wearing a shirt with a rainbow heart.

Clinton spoke about the mass shooting during her speech.

‘I know how many people, family members, loved ones and friends are still grieving’.

Mateen was confronted by a reporter after a rally, questioning why he went to this event right near Orlando where the Pulse nightclub shooting happened.

‘I spoke a lot about that,’ he said, according to News 6, and once again condemned his son’s horrific murderous actions.

‘I wish my son joined the Army and fought ISIS and destroyed ISIS. That would be much better.’

Mateen was the first to connect how his son had become ‘very angry’ when he saw two men kissing in Miami and wondered whether that may have been the cause of the shootings.

Post-attack, he said he and Mateen’s mother were in ‘shock, just like the rest of the country.’

In a video, he said he was ‘deeply saddened’ by his son’s actions.

‘God himself will punish those involved in homosexuality,’ he said in Dari, according to a translation. ‘This is not for the servants.’
