When you send out dick pics to a guy, he’s definitely not keeping them private

Don't send your dick pic to the wrong person

The people you’ve shared your dick pics with are definitely not keeping them private and sharing them with friends, according to a new study.

Indiana University researchers found the majority of people who shared dick pics expect them to remain private, but 23% who received them shared them with more than three friends.

‘That finding suggests the real risk of sexting is the potential for non-consensual sharing of sext messages, Justin Garcia, research scientist at the Kinsey Institute, said, adding there could be consequences to people’s social lives, careers and psychosocial wellbeing.

‘It raises the question that if someone sends something to you with the presumption that it’s private and then you share it with others — which, when it comes to sexting, nearly one out of every four single Americans are doing, what do we want to consider that type of violation? Is it just bad taste? Is it criminal?’

The dick pics study also found 70% of all participants had used them to ‘flirt with a relationship partner’.

‘For some, sexting may lead to positive outcomes such as increased partner intimacy and satisfaction,’ Garcia said. ‘For others, it may lead to negative outcomes such as lowered self-esteem or damage to reputation.’

He added: ‘But the real risk is not the sending of sexual messages and images per se, but rather the nonconsensual distribution of those materials to other parties.

‘As sexting becomes more common and normative, we’re seeing a contemporary struggle as men and women attempt to reconcile digital eroticism with real-world consequences.’

In a poll on Gay Star News, 63% of people had sent a sexually explicit photo of themselves to someone they’ve never met in person.
