A former candidate of the homophobic French Front National (FN) has been sentenced to nine months in jail for comparing a black Justice Minister to a chimpanzee.

France’s Justice Minister Christiane Taubira last year faced legal action from the FN for saying the group is racist and homophobic.

She made the remarks in response to Anne-Sophie Leclere, an FN candidate who was then standing in a small town in the north-eastern Ardennes region, and who posted images on her Facebook page of a baby chimpanzee, with the caption:

US: Tea Party candidate accuses opponent of being replaced by a robot

Tim Murray claims the Republican Representative is actually a robot Get the latest LGBT headlines in your inbox with our free daily newsletter! Join 0 reader comments

A Tea Party candidate in Oklahoma is claiming that the congressman he is challenging, who is opposed to gay rights, has been killed and replaced by a robot or a humanoid body double.

Timothy Ray Murray, who was standing for the party’s nomination in the 3rd congressional district, has charged that imcumbent Representative Frank Lucas is in fact a robot.

He wrote on his website: “I, Timothy Ray Murray, am a human, born in Oklahoma, and obtained and continue to fully meet the requirements to serve as U.S. Representative when honoured to so.

“I will never use a look alike to replace my (The Office’s) message to you or to anyone else, as both the other Republican Challengers have. Rep. Frank Lucas, and a few other Oklahoma and other States’ Congressional Members were depicted as being executed by The World Court on or about Jan. 11, 2011 in Southern Ukraine.

“On television they were depicted as being executed by the hanging about the neck until death on a white stage and in front of witnesses.

“Other now current Members of Congress have shared those facts on television also. We know that it is possible to use look alike artificial or man-made replacements, however Rep. Lucas was not eligible to serve as a Congressional Member after that time.

“The World knows the truth and We must always display and communicate the truth. I will always share public information with the truth when honoured to serve as your Representative.”

Lucas, who repeatedly voted in favour of banning same-sex marriage and against the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, told HuffPo: “Many things have been said about me, said to me in the course of all my campaigns. This is the first time I’ve ever been accused of being a body double or a robot.”

In Tuesday’s primary, Lucas received 82.8 percent of the vote, while Murray received 5.2 percent of the vote.

Earlier this month, a gay Tea Party activist claimed that same-sex marriage is “tyrannical”, and its support “completely fabricated”.

Barney Frank Urges LGBT Community To Vote Against Gay Republican Candidate

WASHINGTON — The campaign for Massachusetts’ 6th Congressional District has received a significant amount of national attention this cycle, in large part because Richard Tisei, the challenger in the race, could become the first openly gay Republican elected to Congress. Tisei received a nice boost in February, when the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund endorsed him despite the fact that incumbent Rep. John Tierney (D-Mass.) has an exceptionally strong record on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality.

The race has presented LGBT advocates with a dilemma that a few years ago might have seemed too good to be true: Support an openly gay Republican candidate who could perhaps help convince his colleagues to evolve on equality, or stay with a Democratic congressman who is straight but has been a stalwart on these issues?

On Capitol Hill Wednesday evening, a group of Democratic and LGBT donors came together to make the case that the latter was still the best option for the gay community.

As the Washington Blade reported last month, two of former Rep. Barney Frank’s (D-Mass.) staffers organized Wednesday’s fundraiser for Tierney, in large part to “blunt” the Victory Fund’s endorsement of Tisei.

Frank, who attended the event, did not hesitate to criticize the Victory Fund’s decision.

“I do believe it is very important to support gay and lesbian candidates. But the notion that we will tell an incumbent who has been absolutely perfect on gay, lesbian, bisexual

Candidate for EU President under fire over ‘politically transsexual’ joke

Jean-Claude Juncker joked that he is ‘politically transsexual’ 4 reader comments

The man set to become the next president of the European Commission has been condemned for joking that he is “politically transsexual”.

According to ZEIT, former Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker told an audience earlier this week he has not decided what kind of president he would be, asking them to excuse his “political transsexuality”.

In a statement, Transgender Europe (TGEU) called on Juncker to apologise for the jibe.

They said: “It is shocking that a high-level politician like Juncker is perpetuating stereotypes and misunderstandings against transgender persons.

“Trans people are often faced with the external assumption that they are confused or not able to make up their mind. The contrary is the case. To come out and be true to your inner self needs an extra-ordinary strength in a society hostile to transgressing gender norms.

“It is sad that Juncker is using trans people as a cheap punch line, revealing a complete lack of understanding for the issues at stake.

“Should Claude Juncker become head of the EU Commission, it will be among his duties to observe and support the efforts undertaken by the European Commission to combat this kind of stereotypes.

“The Commission’s Discrimination Eurobarometer 2012 revealed that the overwhelming majority of EU citizens do not know a trans person and are ignorant about transgender discrimination.

TGEU Executive Director Julia Ehrt said: “

US: Maryland Democrat candidate fails to become first transgender official in state senate

Dana Beyer was hoping to be Maryland’s first transgender state senator. 0 reader comments

An equality advocate and retired surgeon has missed out on the chance to become Maryland’s first transgender state senator, after failing to defeat the gay incumbent in Tuesday’s Democrat primary.

Dana Beyer, executive director of Gender Rights Maryland, announced her intention to run against state Sen. Richard Madaleno in January. Madaleno was the state senate’s first gay elected official.

Beyer, who claimed during the race that Madaleno was not progressive enough, told the Daily Beast before the elections:
