LISTEN: Barbra Streisand teams with Anne Hathaway and Daisy Ridley for A Chorus Line number

Barbra Streisand has some unlikely singing partners on new album - including Daisy Ridley.

Fans of Barbra Streisand are getting a sneak peak into the gay icon’s 39th album to be released on 26 August.

An audio of legendary diva performing At the Ballet from A Chorus Line with fellow Oscar winner Anne Hathaway and Star Wars: The Force Awakens leading lady Daisy Ridley has been posted on YouTube (see below).

It is one of the numbers that will appear on Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway.

‘I wanted to work with some women on this album and I thought well, give them a little character, have them act scenes, so I have to have good actresses who can sing,’ Streisand, 74, says in a promo video.

Of choosing Ridley she says: ‘I was interviewing [her] for Gypsy and I said, “Can you sing?” and she said, “Yeah, I can sing,”‘ Streisand recalls.

‘I took a chance with Daisy and it paid off because she wasn’t kidding – she can sing.’

Streisand is to star as Mama Rose in a new feature film version of Gypsy set to begin production later this year.

Other stars who will appear on the album include Alec Baldwin, Antonio Banderas, Jamie Foxx, Hugh Jackman, Seth MacFarlane, Melissa McCarthy, Chris Pine and Patrick Wilson.

There is also a virtual duet with the late Anthony Newley.

Streisand has previously released two albums of Broadway tunes.

Although best known for her films and recordings, Streisand first became a star on Broadway starring in I Can Get It For You Wholesale and later Funny Girl and earning Tony nominations for both shows.

She will appear on The Tony Awards this Sunday (12 June) for the first time in 46 years.
