Gay Olympian throws perfect shade at the Daily Beast

Olympian Amini Fonua is using his swimsuit to announce queerness at Olympics.

Amini Fonua is a champion. Tonga’s gay Olympian posted the best response to the Daily Beast’s article outing athletes at the Rio Summer Games.

He posted the following on Instagram.

‘If what you were looking for on Grindr was hot ass (and I don’t see any other reason why you’d be on there), here you have mine in all its proud glory,’ he wrote. ‘Now, kiss it and fuck off.’

The publication has received well earned criticism for a piece, written by straight journalist Nico Hines. The writer, who is covering the Olympics for the Daily Beast, used Grindr to have athletes hit on him in the Olympic Village.

The original article contained specific details about the closeted athletes, including their nationalities and where they placed in their sport, meaning they could easily be identified. At least one of the athletes is from a country where homosexuality is illegal, and others were from places where gay sex is taboo.

Daily Beast editors eventually pulled the article, issuing an apology.

Fonua’s answer is all that needs to be said.
